Ergonomic and Multi-tasker

My Logitech M590 mouse just quit working and I was looking for a replacement mouse. The M590 was one of my favorite work/office mouse. The shape and size of the M590 was perfect fit for my hands. And so when looking for a replacement I was also considering comfort and features. The M590 is a multitasking mouse where it can connect to a windows pc to another pc or a mac. This is really a nice feature to have.

I was keen on getting the MX Anywhere 3 but a similar mouse the MX Master 3S looks really awesome. The MX Master 3S is heftier and has a separate horizontal scroll wheel aka thumbwheel. In the end I settled for the MX Anywhere 3 as I have small hands and the fit is just right.

Box and Packaging

The packaging is quite nice w/ the image of the MX Anywhere 3 embossed in a 3d like effect.

Inside the box: mouse, USB type C to A cable, untying receiver, documentation. The contents of the box is a bit on the spartan side. I guess for an expensive mouse you'd want to see more stuff inside the box.

Looks and Build Quality

The MX Anywhere 3 has a solid build made of high-quality plastic with rubber grip on the sides. The bottom has 4 Teflon oval shaped pads. This allows the mouse to glide on any surface. The mouse feels good on the hand although I kind of think that the M590 has a more comfortable grip due to being a bit taller than the MX3. My usual hand position when holding a mouse is a hand grip where the palm rest on the mouse. With the MX3 Anywhere due to a much lower height part of my hand would touch the mouse pad. It's not a deal breaker but would need to get use to if you're coming from a mid size or bigger mouse.

Note of the placement of the PC switch in between the 2 Teflon pads. Just press the button x number of times to connect to the assigned PC. When a PC is connected the LED would lit white.

Connectivity

Logitech has equipped the MX3 Anywhere 3 with Bluetooth and unifying receiver dongle. If you have a Logitech dongle - Bolt receiver, do note that this would not work with MX3 Anywhere 3 because BOLT and Unifying receiver are not cross compatible. Logi BOLT is Logitech's latest USB receiver but is more geared towards enterprise applications.

The receiver can connect 6 Logitech Unifying receiver compatible mice and keyboards within a range of 10 meters. Compatible with Windows 10 and 11. If you're into Macs it should work on macOS . Linux is not officially supported but you can still connect the mouse via Bluetooth.

Logi Options + Software

The mouse works straight out of the box but it's recommended to install Logitech's mouse and keyboard software - Logi Options +. This app provides custom settings on the buttons, scroll wheel and the Flow PC connection. I added Microsoft edge and the action - New browser tab. When I'm browsing edge and want to add tab I simply press the mode shift button and presto a new edge tab would open.

One of the selling features of the MX Anywhere 3 is it can connect to 3 different computers when a Unifying dongle is present on those machines. I have a desktop Win10 gaming computer that is connected thru Logitech Flow to my Win11 laptop. With Flow enabled I can copy and paste photo or documents from my laptop to the desktop or vice-versa. This saves me time when I need to transfer some files.

LOGI Options+ would automatically detect compatible mice and keyboards.

Sensor Specifications

  • Sensor Technology: Darkfield high precision

  • Nominal value: 1000 DPI

  • DPI : 200-4000 dpi (can be set in increments of 50 )

  • Battery: Rechargeable Li-Po 500mAh. Up to 70 days on a full charge

The DPI can be adjusted up to a max of 4000 dpi. Not bad if you're casual gaming. If you're into online competitive gaming better use a gaming mouse for higher dpi and better latency. For work related task the DPI range should be enough. Personally I use around 2300 dpi just fast enough to hover from my laptop screen to a monitor.

One of the nice feature of the mouse is the magspeed scroll wheel. The wheel itself is made of stainless steel and feels premium. You can do fast scrolling just by clicking the pointer speed button. You can go back to the ratchet feel by clicking the pointer button a second time.

The battery is advertised to last 70 days. I have not tested this claim but on my usage it would take several weeks before I charge and I don't deplete the battery to less than 30% to prolong battery life. The mouse can be charge using the included USB type-C to type-A cable. When connected to USB for charging the mouse cannot be used. Not a deal breaker as you would only needs to charged the mouse after several weeks or months of usage.

Price and Conclusion

Got the mouse at Datablitz for ₱3,595($64). It's an expensive mouse considering there are a lot of mice from Logitech or other brands that may have some of the features for a cheaper price. I guess it all depends on your use case. I have 3 machines that I used for work - laptop, desktop and a Linux machine. Before I use a separate mouse for each machine which is a nightmare. The MX Anywhere 3 not only solves my multi-tasking problem but also frees my desk of clutter.

In the future iterations maybe Logitech can put the PC switch button top side. The current bottom placement is a bit cumbersome as you need to lift then turn the mouse to access the PC switch button.
